A fly, pink eye and Sen. Kamala Harris: The Vice-Presidential debates.

Last night, for the first time I actually sat and watched 90 minutes of a political debate, live. The fact that we were able to hear clearly what both candidates were saying already made this debate an improvement from the presidential debate a week earlier.

But, that turned out to be Pence’s downfall. Unlike the debate from last week, Pence’s lies and his unwillingness to even acknowledge the questions that were asked were more evident and much more frustrating.

Asked about the Trump administration’s response to climate change, his response was, “the climate is changing and we believe in science” before pivoting to talk about taxes for the remainder of his two minutes. When asked about the Trump administration’s plan to protect individuals with pre-existing conditions, since his administration is trying to get rid of Obamacare, he spoke instead of the Supreme Court.

His failure to answer a single question, coupled with his boring, condescending and lifeless delivery made his performance difficult to watch except for the moment when the fly landed on his head and stayed there for two whole minutes. That’s evidence enough that his performance during the debate was pure bullshit.

On the other hand, Sen. Kamala Harris, a seasoned prosecutor was making the case that the Trump/Pence ticket does not deserve another term and she won’t be interrupted.

She was dominant, assertive and articulated the Biden/Harris plan for American in a way that Mike Pence never did for the Trump/Pence ticket.

She was able to introduce herself to the American people in a way that assured voters that she is ready to fill the role of president if Biden is no longer able to execute the duties of the office and exposed the deficiencies in the Trump campaign, particularly their problem with female voters.

Her “Mr. Vice-President I’m speaking” was a relatable moment for every woman across this country who has been talked over, condescended to and rudely interrupted by a man, much like what Pence was doing on the stage last night, not just to Sen. Harris but to the female moderator as well.

Sen. Kamala Harris clearly won the debate. Her performance reinforced the Biden/Harris ticket strong support among female voters. She clearly outlined the Biden/Harris plan and assured voters that she’s ready to step up to the role as Commander in Chief if the need arises.

Trump world sees Pence’s performance as a win because he didn’t hulk out like his boss last week. He was able to deliver most if not all of the Trump/Pence talking points based on their reality. The Republicans believe that for now atleast, Pence’s performance stop the avalanche that started after Trump’s disastrous performance last week, and that’s a win in their book.
