Adam Kinzinger accepts Pelosi's appointment to Jan. 6 panel.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill) accepted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s appointment to a select committee to investigate the January 6 Capitol insurrection.

“He brings great patriotism to the Committee’s mission: to find the facts and protect our Democracy,” Pelosi said in a statement on Sunday.

Kinzinger accepted the appointment in a statement blasting Trump allies for spreading lies and conspiracy theories about the election and the January 6 attack.

“Let me be clear, I’m a Republican dedicated to conservative values, but I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution — and while this is not the position I expected to be in or sought out, when duty calls, I will always answer,” he said in a statement according to the Hill.

“This moment requires a serious, clear-eyed, non-partisan approach. We are duty-bound to conduct a full investigation on the worst attack on the Capitol since 1814 and to make sure it can never happen again,” he added.

Last week, media outlets reported that Pelosi was considering appointing Kinzinger to the panel after McCarthy pulled all five of his Republican recommendations after the Speaker vetoed two- Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio and Jim Banks of Indiana.

Kinzinger, a vocal critic of Donald Trump and one of ten House Republicans who voted to impeach the former president for inciting an insurrection, has been saying that if he’s appointed by the Speaker to serve on the committee he will accept.

Kinzinger joins Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) as the two Republicans on the panel investigating Jan. 6.

The select committee will begin its investigation on Tuesday with testimony from four police officers — two representing the U.S. Capitol Police and two with the D.C. Metropolitan Police department — who had defended the Capitol on Jan. 6.
