Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill) became the first GOP lawmaker to call for the 25th Amendment to be invoked to remove Donald Trump from office.
Kinzinger laid the blame squarely on Donald Trump for instigating the riot on the US Capitol on Wednesday.

“Here’s the truth. The president caused this. The president is unfit and the president is unwell. And the president now must relinquish control of the executive branch voluntarily or involuntarily,” Kinzinger a frequent critic of Trump said.
“All indications are that the president has become unmoored, not just from his duty, nor even his oath, but from reality itself. It’s for this reason that I call for the vice president and members of the Cabinet to ensure the next few weeks are safe for the American people and that we have a sane captain the ship,” he said. “It’s time to invoke the 25th Amendment and to end this nightmare.”

There are preliminary talks among some Cabinet members of invoking the 25th Amendment. The discussions are ongoing but it’s unclear if there will be enough Cabinet members to result in Trump’s removal, according to CNN.
