Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill) said more witnesses have come forward to testify since former White House staffer Cassidy Hutchinson’s bombshell testimony before the Jan. 6 committee last week.
“I don’t want to get into who or any of those details,” he said. “She’s been inspiring for a lot of people. This happens every day. Every day we get new people that come forward and say, ‘Hey, I didn’t think that maybe this piece of the story that I knew was important….I do see this plays in here.”
Hutchinson’s testimony was described by some in Trump’s orbit as “definitely the most damning”.
She provided the committee with details about Trump’s actions behind the scenes in the days leading up to Jan. 6 and on the day of the riot. She told the committee that Trump knew his supporters were armed that day and that he lunged at a Secret Service agent while grabbing the steering wheel of the presidential limousine when he was told by his Secret Service detail that he would not be going to the Capitol. She also told the committee that former chief of staff Mark Meadows and Rudy Giuliani sought pardons from Trump after the riot.
Members of the secret service disputed Hutchinson’s claim that the former president lunged at an agent and said they are willing to testify under oath. However, secret service sources told CNN that stories similar to the incident described by Hutchinson during her testimony have been circulating since last year, including the story about Trump lunging at an agent.
“He had sort of lunged forward — it was unclear from the conversations I had that he actually made physical contact, but he might have. I don’t know,” one source said. “Nobody said Trump assaulted him; they said he tried to lunge over the seat — for what reason, nobody had any idea.”
Kinzinger said on Sunday that people should “stay tuned” because “there will be way more information” to come.
