Alabama GOP lawmaker arrested on voter fraud charge.

A Republican state lawmaker in Alabama was arrested Tuesday for alleged voter fraud.

Rep. David Cole was booked into the Madison County Jail on a charge of voting at multiple or unauthorized locations, according to the Associated Press. He was released after posting a $2,500 bond.

Cole’s arrest comes after he was accused of not living in the district where he was elected.

According to tax records, Cole is a resident of District 4 in Alabama but, days before the filing deadline in November 2021 Cole signed a rental agreement for a property in District 10.

The move was meant to smooth Cole’s path to victory since he would replace a retiring Republican lawmaker in District 10 as opposed to trying to unseat an incumbent lawmaker in District 4.

Voter fraud is a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, AP noted.
