Former Florida representative and lieutenant colonel, Allen West announced on Saturday that he has COVID-related pneumonia, low oxygen and will “probably” require hospitalization.
“I want to thank all of you for your prayers. Angela and I just completed the monoclonal antibody infusion therapy and are in the observation period. There’s a concern about my oxygen saturation levels, which are at 89 and they should be at 95,” West said.
“My chest X-rays do show COVID pneumonia, not serious. I am probably going to be admitted to the hospital,” he added.
On Friday West tweeted that after his wife tested positive he developed “a low grade fever and light body aches” and added that he was “already taking Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin protocols.”
After the initial tweets, West’s account posted a clarification saying that while his wife had taken the shot, West did not because he “supports individual choice and this is reflected in his own family.”
Less than two days before he announced the positive test, West spoke to a mostly maskless crowd at the gala for an evangelical organization called Mission Generation. West noted in his tweet that it was a “packed house” at the event.
West is running in the Republican gubernatorial primary to unseat Abbott who he has criticized for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic in Texas.
