Americans pick a side in Trump-Musk feud: Poll

Americans hate both Elon Musk and Donald Trump as the two men continue their public feud.

A YouGov poll on Thursday shows 52% of respondents said they side with “neither” Trump nor Musk as the president and the world’s richest man trade barbs on social media. 28 percent of respondents say they side with Trump, 11 percent are not sure and just 8% side with Musk.

Along party lines, 71% of Republicans side with Trump, 6% with Musk, 12% with neither, and 11% were unsure. Among Democrats, 80% say neither, 4% sided with Trump, 11% with Musk, and 6% not sure.

Among Independents, 59% say neither, 18% pick Trump, 8% Musk, and 16% were not sure.

The public feud between Trump and Musk originated with Musk criticizing Trump’s budget bill. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated that the bill would add $2.4 trillion to the federal debt in the next decade.

Musk called the bill a “disgusting abomination”and urged lawmakers to “KILL THE BILL.”

In response Trump said Musk was “wearing thin” by the end of his time at DOGE and “went CRAZY!.” Trump also threatened to cut government contracts for Musk’s companies.

In the YouGov poll 41% of respondents support cutting Musk’s federal contracts, while 21% opposed and 38% were unsure.

More Democrats (61%) than independents (39%) and Republicans (23%) favor Trump’s move to cut Musk’s government contracts, according to the poll.

The feud grew increasingly personal on Thursday as Musk said Trump was “in the Epstein files” which is why his administration hasn’t followed through on his campaign promise to release the files because they would implicate him.
