Amid questions about Epstein, GOP senators call for special counsel to investigate Obama.

Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and John Cornyn (R-TX) are demanding that a special counsel be appointed to investigate former President Barack Obama after the Trump administration accused Obama officials of “treason.”

“For the good of the country, we urge Attorney General Bondi to appoint a special counsel to investigate the extent to which former President Obama, his staff and administration officials manipulated the U.S. national security apparatus for a political outcome,” the senators wrote in a joint statement. “As we have supported in the past, appointing an independent special counsel would do the country a tremendous service in this case.”

“With every piece of information that gets released, it becomes more evident that the entire Russia collusion hoax was created by the Obama Administration to subvert the will of the American people,” they added.

Last week, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard declassified and released documents which she claimed showed top Obama officials manufactured the claim that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election and amounts to a “treasonous conspiracy”.

Gabbard added in a post on X, that she was “turning over all documents to the DOJ for criminal referral.”

But, the newly unsealed documents do nothing to undercut the government’s core findings in its 2017 assessment and a Republican led congressional investigation, that Russia launched an influence and hacking campaign and sought to help Donald Trump defeat Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Obama has issued a statement in response, slamming the allegations as “outrageous” and “bizarre.”

“Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response. But these claims are outrageous enough to merit one. These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a week attempt at distraction,” Patrick Rodenbush, a spokesperson for Obama said.

Trump baselessly accusing Obama of treason and Republicans falling in line, comes as questions swirl about the Trump administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case.
