A 6-year-old student brought a handgun to class at Little Creek Elementary School on Thursday, according to The Virginian Pilot.
School officials discovered the gun around 3:30 p.m. and called police. The weapon was turned over to officers and no injuries were reported.
The child’s mother has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and allowing access to a loaded firearm by children. She was released on a summons.
This comes after a 6-year-old shot his teacher at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Va. just last month. Officers are still conducting their investigation in that case before turning their findings over to the Virginia attorney general’s where a decision will be made about whether to charge the child’s parents.
