Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.) faced angry voters in Algoma, Wisconsin, who were upset about Donald Trump’s executive orders and actions taken by the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Grothman was met with boos by residents who were unable to enter the crowded town hall as he walked into the event.
Things also got heated inside when Grothman kicked things off by praising executive orders signed by Trump since he returned to office, according to Wisconsin Public Radio.
Since returning to office a month ago, Trump has signed 73 executive orders, the most in a president’s first 100 days in more than 40 years.
“Obviously, President Trump has issued a lot of executive orders,” Grothman said at Friday’s town hall. “I think, by and large, this is moving very quickly in comparison to other administrations, and I think across the board he’s done some very good things.”
His remarks were met with boos and chants of “do your job!” erupted around the room.
The congressman also faced pushback when he was asked about his support for DOGE —the task force led by Musk, an unelected, South African-born billionaire tasked with slashing the federal workforce and potentially shut down entire agencies created by Congress.
Grothman claimed Musk “does not have the ability to do any actions on his own,” but added that “it’s always a good time to have an agency out there whose goal it is not to add more spending, but to reduce some of the spending that’s already happening.”
A man in the audience reportedly shouted “we did not elect him,” and another person yelled “don’t lie to us!”
Grothman has represented the district since 2015. He easily won re-election in November receiving more than 60 percent of the vote.
