Maj. Gen. Vladimir Petrovich Frolov

Another Russian general has been killed amid Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, Russian officials say.

Maj. Gen. Vladimir Petrovich Frolov, deputy commander of Russia’s 8th army was killed while fighting in the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine, according to the governor of St Petersburg, Alexander Beglov .

Frolov was given a military funeral in St Petersburg’s Serafimovskoe Cemetary on Saturday.

“Today we say goodbye to a real hero. Vladimir Petrovich Frolov died a heroic death in battle with Ukrainian nationalists,” Beglov said. “He sacrificed his life so that children, women and the elderly in the Donbas would no longer hear bomb explosions. To stop waiting for death and leaving home, to say goodbye as if it were the last time.”

Russia has lost at least eight generals fighting in Ukraine since the war began on Feb. 24. Despite the loss of top military officials, Putin continues to say his “special military operation” in Ukraine is going according to plan.
