Another Russian oligarch dies after falling down stairs

Another Russian oligarch has died under mysterious circumstances amid President Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

Dmitry Zelenov, 50, a real estate tycoon, died after falling down a flight of stairs in the French Riviera, according to the Daily Mail and French newspaper Var Matin

Zelenov was reportedly having dinner with friends in the town of Antibes when he became ill and fell down a flight of stairs, sustaining critical head injuries. He was transported to a hospital in Nice where he died from his injuries.

Russian news outlet, Baza, says Zelenov had surgery related to an undisclosed heart condition in the weeks before his death. The outlet did not provide any further information to support its claim.

Zelenov was the owner of Russian real estate firm Don-Stroy. He was one of the first to build luxury residential buildings in the country and regularly appeared on Forbes’ list of wealthiest Russians until the 2008 financial crisis. The firm suffered considerable loses and was taken over by Russia’s state-owned bank VTB.

Zelenov is the latest in a long line of Russian oligarchs who died under mysterious circumstances since the invasion of Ukraine.

Before Zelenov, the most recent death was that of Anatoly Gerashchenko,73, the former head of Moscow’s Aviation Institute (MAI). Gerashchenko died in September after falling “from a great height” down “several flights of stairs”.
