An anti-vax folk singer in the Czech Republic is dead after she intentionally exposed herself to COVID-19 to get a health pass instead of taking the vaccine.
Hana Horká, 57, a vocalist for folk band Asonance, deliberately caught COVID from her fully vaxxed husband and son who tested positive for the virus over Christmas.
Since the Czech Republic requires proof of vaccination or proof of recovery from COVID-19 to enter bars, pubs, restaurants, cinemas, sports facilities and performance venues, Horkà saw her family’s COVID infection as her chance to get a health pass without getting vaccinated.
“She decided to continue to live normally with us and preferred to catch the disease than to get vaccinated,” her son Jan Rek told Czech radio news outlet iRozhlas.cz.
She became infected and appeared to be recovering. On Friday, she even posted on Facebook that she made it past the worst of COVID and “now there will be the theatre, sauna, a concert… and an urgent trip to the sea.”
On Sunday she wanted to go for a walk but was unable to so because she was feeling ill, minutes later she died.
Her son blamed anti-vax groups in Europe for her death and lashed out at them in a social media post saying they have “blood on their hands.”
“Sadly, she trusted strangers more than her own family,” he told iRozhlas.cz.
The Czech Republic recorded 28,469 new COVID cases on Tuesday, its highest since the start of the pandemic. 63% of the country’s population is fully vaccinated.
