Appeals court disqualifies Fani Willis from Georgia Trump case.

Trump supporter indicted for threatening Fulton County DA Fani Willis.

A Georgia appellate court Thursday disqualified Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from prosecuting Donald Trump and co-defendants in the Georgia election subversion case.

The appeals court found that Willis’ office can’t prosecute the case, so a new special prosecutor would need to be appointed for the case to continue, CNN reported

The appeals court found that a “significant appearance of impropriety” was enough to potentially tarnish the case. The court decided, however, it wouldn’t dismiss the case entirely.

“While we recognize that an appearance of impropriety generally is not enough to support disqualification, this is the rare case in which disqualification is mandated and no other remedy will suffice to restore public confidence in the integrity of these proceedings,” the court wrote.

The appeals court decision raises questions about whether the case can move forward against Trump. However, the remaining 14 co-defendants could be tried as early as next year.
