The angry white man who attacked NBC reporter Shaquille Brewster while he was covering Hurricane Ida from Gulfport, Mississippi on Monday is wanted by the police.
While Brewster was updating MSNBC host Craig Melvin on the damage caused by the outer bands of Ida in Gulfport, a pickup truck pulled up and a white man ran towards the team. Brewster was forced to cut his report short because the visibly upset man was shouting at him in the background. When the reporter handed it back to Melvin in the studio, the man attacked at him.
Brewster later tweeted, “Appreciate the concern guys. The team and I are all good!.”
The Gulfport Police Department in Mississippi has identified the man as Benjamin Eugene Dagley who violated his probation in Ohio by traveling to Mississippi.
He has been charged with two counts of simple assault, one count of disturbance of the peace and one count of violation of emergency curfew.
“We would like to thank the public for coming forward and helping identify Dagley,” Gulfport PD tweeted on Tuesday.
According to the department, Dagley was traveling in a Ford truck on Highway 90 during a city-wide curfew caused by Hurricane Ida. They believe he has left Mississippi and is traveling in a white 2016 Ford F150 bearing Ohio License Plate number PJR1745. The police ask anyone knowing of his whereabouts or spotting the truck contact their local law enforcement agency.
