Authorities in Texas are now offering a $80,000 reward for the arrest of a mass shooting suspect who allegedly shot and killed five of his neighbors on Friday after they asked him to stop firing off rounds in his yard, according to CBS News.
The gunman, Francisco Oropesa, 38, is still on the run two days after the shooting on Friday night that left five of his neighbors dead, including an 8-year-old boy.
San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers said at a press conference on Sunday that there were over 200 officers searching for Oropesa, going door to door asking neighbors for any information that may lead to his arrest.
FBI Houston Special Agent James Smith said the agency is offering $25,000 reward for Oropesa’s arrest. State and local authorities are also offering a combined $55,000 bringing the total amount to $80,000.
Authorities say the deadly confrontation began after Oropesa, who is originally from Mexico, was asked to stop firing rounds in his yard because young children in the home were trying to sleep.
“The neighbors walked over and said … ‘Hey man, can you not do that, we’ve got an infant in here trying to sleep’ or whatever,” San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers said, according to The Washington Post. “They went back in their house and then we have a video of him walking up their driveway with his AR-15.”
Oropesa fled the scene after the shooting and is still on the run.
