Betsy DeVos says she’d serve in another Trump administration—but only under one condition.

Former Trump Administration Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said she is willing to work for her old boss again, but only if she is allowed to completely destroy the Department of Education.

DeVos told The Detroit News that she does not believe Trump would ask her to serve in his administration again but she would be open to the idea “only if it was with the goal of phasing out the Department of Education as we tried to do through budgetary process in the first administration.”

“Also getting a commitment to passing a major education freedom bill in the form of a tax credit mechanism at the Department of Treasury.” she added.

DeVos has long been an advocate for eliminating the Department of Education. In 2022, she said the department ‘should not exist’.

As education secretary in the Trump administration, DeVos worked to reduce her department’s authority over schools, introducing cuts to federal education spending and rolling back federal guidelines in favor of letting states and local districts decide their own policy, according to insider.

Still, DeVos’ willingness to work for Trump again is a reversal from 2021 when she resigned from the administration citing the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

DeVos said that the attack “was unconscionable for our country” and called Trump’s rhetoric about the situation “the inflection point for me.”
