Biden’s approval rating surges after hitting lowest point in July, Quinnipiac poll

Biden leads Trump, DeSantis in hypothetical 2024 presidential matchups.

President Joe Biden’s approval rating surged in August after a slew of legislative victories.

According to a new Quinnipiac Poll, 40 percent of American approve of the job Biden is doing as president, up from 31 percent in July.

However, the president’s approval is still 12 points underwater as 52 percent disapprove of the job he’s doing.

Among Democrats, 83 percent approve of Biden’s job as president, up 11 percent from July. Meanwhile, 92 of Republicans and 55 percent of Independents disapprove of Biden’s performance.

Biden had some major wins in August including the Inflation Reduction Act which slows inflation by reducing the deficit, lowers prescription drug prices, and invest into domestic energy production while promoting clean energy. Biden also signed the PACT act which expands health care benefits for veterans exposed to toxic burn pits. And in the last week of August President Biden announced that his administration is canceling student debt for millions of Americans making less than $125,000 a year. Eligible borrowers will have  $10,000 in federal student loan debt forgiven and those who received Pell Grants will have up to $20,000 forgiven.

According to the poll, 53 percent of Americans approve of the plan to cancel student loans while 43 disapprove.

“A summertime surge. President Biden’s approval number bounces back to the long elusive 40 percent mark, as he rides increased support among young adults who may well be encouraged by Biden’s decision to erase some student debt,” Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy said.

The Quinnipiac poll was conducted from August 25th – 29th among 1,584 adults. It has a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points.
