President Joe Biden has joined other top Democrats to call for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s (D) resignation after an investigation by the state attorney general found that he sexually harassed multiple women.
“He should resign,” Biden told reporters at the White House.
Asked whether Cuomo should be removed from office if he refuses to resign, Biden said, “I understand the state legislature may decide to impeach, I do not know that for a fact.”
Biden joined scores of other Democrats, including New York Democratic senators, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Kirsten Gillibrand and Reps. Hakeem Jeffires (D-N.Y.), Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) and Tom Suozzi (D-N.Y.) in calling for Cuomo to resign.
Cuomo remains defiant, denying any wrongdoing and refusing to step down.
“The facts are much different than what has been portrayed,” Cuomo said. “I never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances.”
He suggested the report was tainted by “bias” and portrayed himself as a protector of women. “For those who are using this moment to score political points, or seek publicity or personal gain, I say they actually discredit the legitimate sexual harassment victims that the law was designed to protect,” Cuomo said.
