Biden regrets dropping out of presidential race because he could have defeated Trump.

President Joe Biden reportedly regrets dropping out of the 2024 presidential race because he believes he could have defeated Donald Trump.

As Biden’s presidency comes to an end several sources close to the outgoing president told The Washington Post that he has some regrets, including stepping aside as the Democratic presidential nominee in July.

Biden dropped out of the presidential race after a disastrous June debate with Donald Trump which renewed concerns about his age and his chances of defeating Trump.

According to the Post, Biden privately acknowledged that he had “screwed up” in his debate against Trump, but believe he should have stayed in the race.

Biden and some of his allies have told people in recent days that he could have defeated Trump, sources familiar with their comments told The Post.

Biden also reportedly regrets choosing Merrick Garland as his attorney general. In private, Biden expressed frustration with Garland for slow-walking prosecuting Trump for his role in the January 6, 2021 insurrection while presiding over a justice department that aggressively prosecuted his son Hunter.

Garland appointed Jack Smith as special counsel to oversee the Department of Justice’s investigations into Trump in 2022, two years after Biden took office, the late appointment allowed Trump to successfully delay his trials.

Last month, Smith dropped the two federal criminal cases against Trump after the Republican won the presidential election.

Earlier this month, Biden pardoned Hunter for any alleged offenses by Hunter Biden since the start of 2014 to Dec. 1, 2024.
