President Joe Biden said it is “reckless” and “dangerous” for Donald Trump and his allies to call the verdict in the former president’s hush money trial “rigged.”
“The American principle that no one is above the law was reaffirmed,” Biden said. “Donald Trump was given every opportunity to defend himself. It was a state case, not a federal case, and it was heard by a jury of 12 citizens, 12 Americans, 12 people like you.”
“It’s dangerous, and it’s irresponsible for anyone to say this was ‘rigged’ just because they don’t like the verdict,” Biden added. “Our justice system has endured for nearly 250 years, and it literally is a cornerstone of America. The justice system should be respected, and we should never allow anyone to tear it down.”
Trump was convicted Thursday of 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide a hush money payment to silence an adult film star before the 2016 election.
Trump is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11.
Biden’s comments came hours after Trump falsely blame him for his legal problems saying: “This is all done by Biden and his people. This is done by Washington. No one has ever seen anything like this.”
“This is a scam, this is a rigged trial,” Trump added. “It shouldn’t have been in that venue. We shouldn’t have had that judge.”
