A Black, gay conservative influencer was heckled with homophobic slurs at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest, in Phoenix, Arizona over the weekend.
Rob Smith, an Army veteran posted the video to social media of a group of attendees at the event yelling slurs at him.
“Last night in Phoenix, I was confronted and surrounded by some White Supremacists that don’t like gays or blacks in the Republican Party,” Smith wrote. “They shouted ‘n*****’ and ‘f*****’ at me to make their point. However, I served in Iraq. I never back down. Ever.”
Though people were heard shouting homophobic slurs, no racial slurs were heard in the video posted by Smith.
“This is embarrassing behavior. All I can say is their gutter trash talk gets rewarded online, and some of them are delusional enough to think they can act the same in real life,” Christina Pushaw, the rapid response director for Florida Gov Ron DeSantis’ campaign said in response to the video.
