According to a portion of an upcoming book from Wall Street Journal White House reporter Michael C. Bender, “Frankly, We Did Win This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost,” published in Politico, a black secret service member told Donald Trump that it was “offensive” to hold a political rally in Tulsa on Juneteenth.
Trump had previously told Bender last year that a Black secret service agent had informed him about the history of Juneteenth.
According to new details released by Bender, two days after announcing a rally to be held on June 19 in Tulsa, Okla., and amid public backlash, Trump asked an unnamed Black secret service agent about Juneteenth.
“Yes, I know what it is,” the agent said to Trump. “And it’s very offensive to me that you’re having this rally on Juneteenth.”
Trump tweeted later that night that he was going to change the date of his rally.
New details about Trump’s rally on June 19 in Tulsa came one day after President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law, making Juneteenth a federal holiday.
