Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) suggested on Friday that Black Democratic Rep. Al Green (Texas) is a “pimp” after he disrupted Donald Trump’s address to Congress this week.
“For him to go and shake his pimp cane at President Trump was absolutely abhorrent,” Boebert, who repeatedly interrupted President Joe Biden’s speech to Congress in 2022, told Real America’s Voice.
Green made waves early in Trump’s speech on Tuesday when the president claimed he was given a “mandate” to drastically overhaul the federal government.
Green stood up and shouted that Trump had “no mandate to cut Medicaid” while waving his cane at him. Green was subsequently removed from the chamber after ignoring Speaker Mike Johnson’s calls for order.
Green was censured by the Republican-controlled House and faces the possibility of being stripped of his committee assignments.
After he was booted from the chamber during Trump’s speech, Green told reporters he “will suffer whatever the consequences are,” adding “truthfully, I would do it again.”
House Republicans adopted a budget blueprint last week that ordered the Energy and Commerce Committee, which oversees Medicare and Medicaid funding, to cut $880 billion in a bill to advance Trump’s agenda, NBC News reports.
