Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) said Democratic Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell both from California, should be removed from the House Intelligence Committee because they are “conspiracy theorists”.
Republicans are targeting Schiff, the former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee because he led an investigation into the Trump 2016 campaign ties with Russia and was the lead manager in Donald Trump’s first impeachment for withholding aid to Ukraine in exchange for dirt on Joe Biden and his family.
For Swalwell, Republicans pointed to his ties to a suspected Chinese spy name Christine Fang, who had helped fundraise for his 2014 reelection bid. Axios broke the story in 2020. Since then Republicans have baselessly claimed Swalwell provided Fang with access to classified information.
U.S. officials do not believe Fang received or passed on classified information, Axios reported.
“They’re really showing their colors, they’re a bunch of Blue Anons, conspiracy theorists, that have these witch hunts and hopes that they chase after,” Boebert said of Schiff and Swalwell on Fox News’ Unfiltered with Dan Bongino on Saturday, according to Newsweek.
“Can you even imagine if it was a Republican caught with a Chinese spy? What would they do, they will be all over that,” Boebert added.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) reiterated his pledge to keep Schiff and Swalwell off the intelligence committee while speaking to reporters last Thursday.
“He put America, for four years, through an impeachment that he knew was a lie,” McCarthy said about Schiff.
“If you got the briefing I got from the FBI, you wouldn’t have Swalwell on any committee,” McCarthy said of Swalwell.
