Fox News anchor Bret Baier admitted that he made a mistake by playing the wrong clip of Donald Trump during his interview with Kamala Harris on Wednesday.
During their exchange Harris referred to Trump’s remarks on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures, calling his political rivals the “enemy from within” and threatening to send the United States military after them.
Baier played a clip of Trump responded to questions about the comment at a town hall with Fox News’ Harris Faulkner, but conveniently left out Trump referring to his rivals as “the enemy from within.”
Instead the clip Baier played was of Trump saying he is “not threatening anybody.”
“They were saying I was like, threatening,” Trump said in the clip. “I’m not threatening anybody. They’re the ones doing the threatening. They do phony investigations, I’ve been investigated more than Alphonse Capone. He was the greatest—no, it’s true. But think of it. It’s called weaponization of government. It’s a terrible thing.”
During the interview Harris called out Baier for his blatant attempt to cover-up for the former president.
“Bret, I’m sorry, and with all due respect, that clip was not what he has been saying about the enemy within that he has repeated when he’s speaking about the American people,” Harris said. “That’s not what you just showed!”
“You didn’t show that. And here’s the bottom line. He has repeated it many times. And you and I both know that. And you and I both know that he has talked about turning the American military on the American people,” she continued. “He has talked about going after people who are engaged in peaceful protests. He has talked about locking people up because they disagree with him. This is a democracy!”
On Thursday Baier admitted that he “did make a mistake” when it came to clips shown in the interview.
“Harold, I did make a mistake,” Baier told panelists Faulkner and Harold Ford Jr. on Fox News’ Special Report, according to a clip highlighted by Mediaite. “And I did want to say that I did make a mistake. When I called for a sound bite, I was expecting a piece of the ‘enemy from within’ from Maria Bartiromo’s interview to be tied to the piece from your town hall, Harris, where you asked the former president about ‘the enemy from within.’ It just had the piece about the town hall.”
In an interview with Bartiromo last Sunday Trump said he believes “the bigger problem is the enemy from within, not even the people that have come in and destroyed our country.”
“We have some sick people, radical left lunatics,” he continued. “And I think they are– and it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military.”
