California Republican melts down on Fox News “they’ve chopped my district into six different pieces.”

Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-Calif.) lashed out at California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Wednesday over the new proposed congressional map in the state ahead of next year’s midterm elections.

Newsom proposed Proposition 50 in response to Texas Republicans passing legislation that allowed the GOP to pick up 5 additional seats in the United States Congress from a rare mid-decade redistricting plan. Proposition 50, which allows the legislature to bypass California’s independent redistricting commission, was approved by voters last month.

The proposed map targets five Republican representatives: Kiley (3rd District), Doug LaMalfa (1st District), David Valadao (22nd District), Ken Calvert (41st District), and Darrell Issa (48th District).

In an interview with Fox News on Wednesday, Kiley announced that he will run for re-election, but he has no idea where yet.

“I’m confident that I’ll win,” Kiley told host Bret Baier in a clip highlighted by Mediaite. “The challenge is, they’ve chopped my district into six different pieces. So, I’m talking with my constituents about what the best forward is.”

Other California Republicans are also weighing their options as they scramble for political survival after redistricting.

Issa is reportedly considering moving to Texas to run for re-election in a safe Republican seat after his district was redrawn to include the Democratic stronghold of Palm Springs, making it far more difficult for him to be re-elected.

The Supreme Court is currently weighing whether to uphold a lower court ruling blocking the new Texas map.
