A California school board president was caught on hot mic mumbling a profanity after a parent’s anti-vax rant during a school board meeting on Tuesday.
Los Alamitos Unified School District president Marlys Davidson could be heard saying “fuck you” after parent, Lauren Roupoli, expressed her opposition to vaccine mandates for children.
Roupoli said the decision on whether a child should get vaccinated or wear mask should be left up the parents. While the crowd cheered, Davidson quietly mumbled “fuck you.” The profanity could be heard in a YouTube video uploaded to the district’s page at the 1:46:13 mark.
Davidson later apologized in a statement.
“I am going to personally apologize to the speaker who most certainly deserves to know that when members of the public address the Board of Education, they must be heard with respect,” she said. “These are trying times, but trying times demand that we rise to do our best. I reaffirm my commitment to serve our community with dignity and integrity, and I hope they will accept my sincere apology.”
However, Roupoli is not satisfied and is calling for her to resign. “After her true colors showed last night, there’s no taking that back,” she said.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends mask wearing in schools to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, and that all eligible Americans get a COVID-19 vaccine.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has already authorized the vaccines for all Americans ages 12 and over, and will soon recommend the Pfizer shot for younger Americans ages 5-11 years old.
All students in California are required to get vaccinated to attend in person classes starting the term following full FDA approval of the vaccine for their grade span (7-12 and K-6).
