A Capitol rioter is asking the court for a lenient sentence, arguing that he has already suffered enough by losing work, his TSA precheck status and access to Airbnb, Insider reports.
Justin McAuliffe pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor charge of parading, picketing, or demonstrating inside Capitol grounds in November last year. He will be sentenced on Friday.
McAuliffe’s attorney argued in a court filing that his life as a New York CPA has been turned upside-down since he pleaded guilty. He is losing clients and is no longer able to drive for Lyft to make ends meet since has been banned.
McAuliffe was also banned from using Airbnb, and lost his TSA-precheck pass, the filing said. His wife also filed for divorce the day after he was arrested, but the couple is now working on their marriage again.
“He deeply regrets bringing all this upon his wife and family,” the filing says. “It is all his fault. He blames nobody but himself.”
McAuliffe faces up to six months in prison, a fine of not more than $5,000, and a term of probation, according to Insider.
