Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville suggested on Tuesday that Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), Donald Trump’s running mate, does not want to debate presumptive Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
“I don’t think Trump wants to debate. JD Vance doesn’t want to get within 50 miles of Governor Walz, I can tell you that,” Carville told CNN. “There’s a lot of football left to play here, and I’m excited. And I’m tired of banging my helmet against the locker. Let’s go out there and play some ball. We’re ready. We’re excited.”
The debate about the debates continues as Trump continues to hedge about debating Harris. The former president has backed out of a previously scheduled ABC News debate arguing that the agreement was to debate Joe Biden and since he dropped out, the agreement no longer holds.
Trump has suggested instead that Harris debate him on Fox News with a full audience.
The Harris campaign slammed Trump for backing out of the debate and reiterated their commitment to following the previously schedule set forth by the Biden campaign.
In the VP race, Walz told a crowded rally in Pennsylvania on Tuesday that he “can’t wait to debate” Vance “if he’s willing to get off the couch and show up,” an apparent reference to the false claim that went viral on social media that Vance wrote about having sex with a couch in his book “Hillbilly Elegy.”
