The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Robert Redfield was overheard trashing Dr. Scott Atlas on the phone this weekend.
The incident occured as Redfield took a call on a commercial flight within earshot of a reporter from NBC News.
“Everything he says is false,” Redfield said during the phone call.
Redfied was discussing Dr. Scott Atlas the controversial new hire on the White House coronavirus task force. Atlas, a neuroradiologist has no experience in infectious diseases or public health. His only qualification is that he was a frequent guest on Fox News whose views on the pandemic are closely aligned with Trump’s.
Redfield later confirmed he was speaking about Atlas and a CDC spokesperson issued a statement saying; “NBC News is reporting one side of a private phone conversation by CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield that was overheard on a plane from Atlanta Hartsfield airport. Dr. Redfield was having a private discussion regarding a number of points he has made publicly about Covid-19.”
In addition to Dr. Redfield, Dr. Deborah Birx have also expressed her concerns about Atlas’ influence over Trump. Since he joined the task force, the role of public health officials have been greatly diminished leading Dr. Birx to question her future on the task force.
