Cheney urges Republicans to vote for Harris, calls Trump an “unrecoverable catastrophe.”

Former congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) called Donald Trump an “unrecoverable catastrophe” and urged fellow Republicans to vote for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in November’s election.

“We see it on a daily basis, somebody who was willing to use violence in order to attempt to seize power, to stay in power, someone who represents unrecoverable catastrophe, frankly, in my view, and we have to do everything possible to ensure that he’s not reelected,” Cheney said in an interview on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday.

Cheney endorsed Harris for president at an event at Duke University last week because of “the danger that Donald Trump poses” to the Constitution.

Cheney reaffirmed her support for Harris on Sunday and urged those Republicans who are planning to write in a candidate to reconsider and vote for Harris.

“Given the closeness of this election, particularly if you’re going to find yourself voting in a swing state, you’ve got to take the extra step if you really do recognize the threat that Donald Trump poses. Then it’s not enough to simply say, ‘I’m not going to vote for him,” Cheney said.

“You have many Republicans out there who are saying, ‘Well, you know, we’re not going to vote for him, but we will write someone else in.’ And I think that this time around, that’s not enough, that it’s important to actually cast a vote for Vice President Harris,” Cheney added.

Several high profile Republicans including former President George W. Bush and Trump’s former Vice-president Mike Pence have stopped short of endorsing Trump but did not publicly endorse Harris.

On Friday, Bush’s VP and Cheney’s father, Dick Cheney, announced he will be voting for Harris in the November election.

“In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again,” Cheney wrote.

“As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris,” he added.
