Chris Christie, former governor of New Jersey and potential contender for the Republican Party nomination for president in 2024 fired back at Donald Trump after the former president said Christie left office “with a less than 9% approval rating.”
“I’m not gonna get into a back-and-forth with Donald Trump,” Christie told Axios. “But what I will say is this: When I ran for reelection in 2013, I got 60% of the vote. When he ran for reelection, he lost to Joe Biden.”
The back-and-forth between Trump and Christie began when the former governor told the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas last weekend that the party needs to focus on the future instead of last year’s election.
“We can no longer talk about the past and the past elections, no matter where you stand on that issue — no matter where you stand — it is over. And every minute that we spend talking about 2020,” he said, was “wasting time.” The party needs to “take our eyes off the rearview mirror and start looking through the windshield again.”
This angered Trump who is still claiming that he lost re-election because of widespread voter fraud even though he has not presented any evidence to support his claim.
“Chris Christie, who just made a speech at the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) in Las Vegas, was just absolutely massacred by his statements that Republicans have to move on from the past, meaning the 2020 Election Fraud,” Trump said in a statement. “Everybody remembers that Chris left New Jersey with a less than 9% approval rating – a record low, and they didn’t want to hear this from him!”
