87-year-old Republican senator from Iowa, Chuck Grassley said on Tuesday that he will be self quarantining after he’d been exposed to COVID-19.
“I learned today that I’ve been exposed to the coronavirus. I will follow my doctors’ orders and immediately quarantine as I await my test results. I’m feeling well and not currently experiencing any symptoms, but it’s important we all follow public health guidelines to keep each other healthy,” Grassley said in a statement.

On Tuesday evening the results came back and the 87-year-old senator tested positive for the coronavirus, hours after announcing that he would be quarantining after a potential exposure.
“This morning, I learned that I had been exposed to the coronavirus. I received a COVID-19 test and immediately began to quarantine. While I still feel fine, the test came back positive for the coronavirus,” Grassley said in a statement.
Grassley currently serves as the Senate’s president pro-tempore, which makes him third in line for the presidency. He is the sixth. senator to test positive for the coronavirus.Â
