CNN has obtained exclusive footage from DC Police Officer Michael Fanone’s body camera as he was tased and attacked while defending the Capitol Building during the insurrection on January 6th.
In the footage broadcast on “CNN Tonight with Don Lemon” on Wednesday, one of the rioters could be heard yelling “I got one,” as he takes a hold of Fanone.
Fanone screamed in agony as the crowd attacked him.
One rioter interjected, telling the crowd not to hurt the officer .
“We’re better than this!,” another rioter said.
Fanone could be heard pleading with the rioters. “I have kids,” he said at one point in the video.
Fanone suffered a heart attack and a concussion during the insurrection and is now dealing with a traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder.
“I struggle daily with the emotional anxiety of having survived such a traumatic event but I also struggle with the anxiety of hearing those who continue to downplay the events of that day and those who would ignore them altogether with their lack of acknowledgement,” Fanone said in an open letter to lawmakers last week.
Despite this, some Republican lawmakers are still downplaying the violence on Jan. 6. At a House committee hearing on Wednesday, Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga) called the Jan. 6 attack a “normal tourist visit.”
