House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) got into a heated exchange with Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) over loans between family members on Tuesday.
The Daily Beast reported last week that Comer engaged in land swaps with his brother related to their family farming business and that one loan was for $200,000 and involved a shell company. This is significant given that Comer is leading a House impeachment probe into President Biden and has pointed to a $200,000 loan Biden gave to his brother in 2018 as evidence of shady financial practices.
At Tuesday’s hearing Moskowitz called out Comer for the loan to his brother and demanded an explanation.
Comer called the report “bullshit” and “completely false” before launching personal attacks on Moskowitz and Rep. Dan Goldman (R-NY) who also raised questions about the loan.
“You and Goldman, who is Mr. Trust Fund, continue to try to discredit – no, I’m not gonna give you your time back. We stopped the clock. You all continue to – you look like a smurf here just going around in all this stuff,” Comer said.
“You continue to spew disinformation. You dispel an investigation into public corruption, that’s what you’re doing,” he continued as both lawmakers shouted back and forth. “You can do anything you want to do, you can investigate anything. You’ve already been proven a liar, Mr. Moskowitz. You’ve already been proven a liar. Go to my home town. There’s a camera crew there today doing opposition research. I’ll pay for your ticket.”
“Mr. Chairman this seems to have gotten under your skin,” Moskowitz said. “Perhaps you should sit maybe for a deposition.”
Gargamel was very angry today,” Moskowitz wrote on X after the exchange.
