House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) continues to investigate Joe Biden months after the former president left office.
On Thursday, Comer sent letters to Biden’s physician and several former White House officials requesting interviews as part of his investigation into what he calls the cover-up of President Biden’s “mental decline” and his alleged use of autopen, according to Politico.
“The question of whether former President Biden executed his duties — and, if not, who in fact did — remains an investigative focus of this Committee,” Comer wrote in the letters. “The Committee remains concerned that you … were involved in running interference on behalf of the former President and perhaps performing duties exclusively reserved for the President of the United States.”
Among the individuals who received a letter from Comer are Biden’s physician, Kevin O’Connor; former Domestic Policy Council Director Neera Tanden; former senior adviser to the first lady Anthony Bernal; former deputy chief of staff Annie Tomasini and former deputy director of Oval Office operations Ashley Williams.
Last week, Comer announced the investigation after Republicans alleged that Biden was so diminished during his time in office that other people were running with the government with use of a autopen.
It is worth noting that while the oversight committee chairman is off chasing the latest far right conspiracy theory about Biden, Donald Trump continues to engage in corrupt acts in plain sight with no oversight from Comer’s committee.
For instance, Comer’s letter demanding Biden officials answer questions about the former president came on the same day Trump is hosting the top holders of his cryptocurrency at a gala at his private golf club near Washington DC. The letter also came one day after the Trump administration officially accepted a jet from the Qatari royal family which Trump claimed he will use as Air Force One.
Both the event and the plane have raised concerns about foreigners buying access to the sitting president, something the US Constitution explicitly prohibits.
Also, despite leading an ill-fated impeachment inquiry against Biden in the last Congress for allegedly benefiting for his son’s foreign business dealings, Comer has ignored Trump’s sons striking business deals with foreign leaders that directly benefit the president.
