Confused Trump makes embarrassing gaffe during major announcement

Donald Trump made an embarrassing error on Sunday while touting a new deal.

Trump was attempting to explain a new deal which allows Japanese company Nippon Steel to invest $14 billion in U.S. Steel, but confused the name of the steelmaker with Nissan, the Japanese automaker.

“They’re going to invest billions of dollars in steel, and it’s a good company, Nissan’s a very good company, we’ll see,” Trump said.

Biden had initially blocked Nippon Steel from purchasing U.S. Steel citing national security concerns.

“We need major U.S. companies representing the major share of US steelmaking capacity to keep leading the fight on behalf of America’s national interests,” Biden said in a statement at the time.

Trump said Sunday he is allowing the Japanese company to ‘invest’ in U.S. Steel because the US would oversee the partnership, though details remain unclear.

“It’ll be controlled by the United States, otherwise I wouldn’t make the deal,” he said.

Trump has confused Nippon with Nissan before. In February, he did so three times in 40 seconds while discussing negotiations between the two companies at the time.
