A former police officer who was brutally beaten on Jan. 6 called Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) a “bitch” for fleeing when the rioters entered the Capitol building after he riled them up.
“The first thoughts that popped into my mind was Josh Hawley is a bitch. And he ran like a bitch,” Micheal Fanone told Politico.
“The fist pump, combined with what he did in the immediate aftermath just shows the true character or lack thereof,” he added.
Fanone was responding to a clip shown by the January 6 panel during its public hearing on Thursday night.
The clip shows Hawley running away while Trump supporters entered the building. Earlier that day, Hawley raised his fist in support of the protesters as he passed them while on his way into the Capitol.
Fanone was beaten unconscious on Jan. 6 after he was dragged from the police line into the mob. He was also tased and suffered a heart attack.
He told Politico that there was laughter in the room after the clip of Hawley fleeing was played.
“Obviously, I see the amusement of it, and I’m not going to fault people for finding it humorous, but that pisses me off. That guy’s a clown,” Fanone said.
