Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) predicted that Americans will see a clear contrast between Vice-President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump on the debate stage next week—if the former president shows up.
“What we will see is this whining child who will sit there and won’t give direct answers and honestly will distract and be a bumbling fool,” Crockett told MSNBC’s Alex Witt on Saturday. “We’ve seen it on the trail when he starts talking about wind and he starts complaining about sharks.”
“I mean the guy is really weird and off his rocker,” she added.
Crockett also weighed in on Harris’ debate strategy, saying she will aim to be the “adult in the room.”
“She really wants to, number one, assure the American people that she has a grasp on the issues, as well as remind them of why we kicked him out in the first place and remind them as to why we don’t want to go back,” the lawmaker said.
The debate will be hosted by ABC News on Sept. 10 in Philadelphia.
However, there are doubts about whether the debate will go ahead as planned. Trump has suggested that he might not show up and there is an ongoing disagreement over whether microphones should be muted during the debate.
The Harris campaign wants microphones to be left open during the debate at all times while the Trump campaign suggested that they adopt the same rules as the June debate on CNN with President Joe Biden, including muting each candidate’s microphone when it’s not their turn to speak.
