Georgia Sen. David Perdue conceded that he lost the Senate race to Democrat Jon Ossoff.

“Although we won the general election, we came up just short of Georgia’s 50% rule, and now I want to congratulate the Democratic Party and my opponent for this runoff win,” Perdue said in a statement on Friday.

Democrats swept the Georgia Senate runoff races and with it, the majority in the United States Senate. Rev. Raphael Warnock will be the first Black person elected to represent Georgia in the Senate and will be only one of three Black people in the Senate while Jon Ossoff will be the first Jewish senator from Georgia and will also be the youngest sitting U.S. senator at age 33.
