Demings leads Sen. Rubio by 4 points in Florida senate race.

Rep. Val Demings (D) leads Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fl.) by 4 points in the Florida Senate race, according to a new poll from the University of North Florida.

The poll shows Demings beating Senator Rubio 48%-44%  among registered voters. 94 percent of Democratic voters supported Demings while 89 percent of Republicans back Rubio.


46 percent of voters with no party affiliation supported Demings while 36 percent say they support Rubio.

Rubio is in trouble because his approval rating among registered voters in the state in just 37 percent, according to the poll.

“Rubio’s approval numbers are Biden-esque,” Dr. Michael Binder, of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of North Florida said. “This is registered voters, and Val is up four points, but this is registered voters, not a likely voter’s model.”


The poll was conducted Aug. 8-12 with a total sample of 1,624 registered voters, with an overall margin of error of 3.4 percentage points. The number of voters polled on the Florida Senate race was 1,534.
