Democrat Tom Suozzi wins New York special election to replace George Santos.

Democrat Tom Suozzi has defeated Republican Mazi Pilip in a special election in New York to replace expelled Rep. George Santos.

Suozzi previously held the seat before he left to run for governor of New York in 2022.

His victory is a significant blow to House Republicans who saw their majority shrink in the lower chamber. Suozzi’s victory changes the House Republican majority to 219-213.

That means Republicans can only afford two GOP defections if they want to pass anything without Democratic support.
