Democratic congressman tests positive for COVID-19 days after attending hearing with Gohmert.

Democratic congressman Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz) announced on Saturday that he has tested positive for the coronavirus. Grijalva’s positive diagnosis comes days after attending a House Judiciary Committee hearing with Louie Gohmert (R-Tex) who tested positive for the virus earlier this week.

In a statement on Saturday, Grijalva said he “currently have no symptoms, feel fine, and hope to make a quick and speedy recovery.”

The Arizona congressman will be quarantining in his home in Washington. Some members of his staff who were in close contact with him this week will also be tested as well.

Grijalva also slammed Republicans who don’t wear a mask in the Capitol, writing: “While I cannot blame anyone directly for this, this week has shown that there are some Members of Congress who fail to take this crisis seriously. Numerous Republican members routinely strut around the Capitol without a mask to selfishly make a political statement at the expense of their colleagues, staff, and their families.”

“I’m pleased that Speaker Pelosi has mandated the use of masks at the Capitol to keep members and staff safe from those looking to score quick political points. Stopping the spread of a deadly virus should not be a partisan issue.”

According to the congressman’s communications director, Geoff Nolan, Grijalva wears a mask every day at the Capitol.
