Democratic governors mocked Gov. Kristi Noem (R-S.D) by posting photos of their dogs, following a report that Noem killed her family dog.
The Guardian published an excerpt from Noem’s forthcoming book on Friday in which she describes how she led her 14-month-old dog family dog named Cricket, to a gravel pit and shot her after she ruined a pheasant hunt by being “out of her mind with excitement, chasing all those birds and having the time of her life” and after she attacked a local family’s chickens.
“I hated that dog,” Noem writes, adding that Cricket was “untrainable”, “dangerous to anyone she came in contact with” and “less than worthless … as a hunting dog”.
Democratic governors responded to the news by posting their pets.
“Post a picture with your dog that doesn’t involve shooting them and throwing them in a gravel pit,” Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) wrote in post in X/Twitter.
Other democratic governors joined in including Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan:
Gov. Phil Murphy of New Jersey:
Noem, who is reportedly on a shortlist of potential Trump running mates, also admitted to killing a goat in a similar fashion.
She argued that executing her dog and a goat shows her willingness to do anything “difficult, messy and ugly” if it simply needs to be done.
