Donations are pouring in after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Vice-President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination.
ActBlue, the Democratic donation processing platform, announced Sunday that as of 9pm ET, grassroot supporters had raised $46.7 million, making it “the biggest fundraising day of the 2024 cycle.”
“Small-dollar donors are fired up and ready to take on this election,” ActBlue added.
The sum will get added to the more than $91 million that was already in the bank account belonging to the former Biden campaign, according to the Federal Election Commission.
President Biden announced Sunday he was stepping down from the top of the Democratic presidential ticket and endorsed Harris.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden said.
But, despite the endorsement Harris will not automatically become the Democratic nominee for president as the party’s delegates will make that decision at the Democratic National Convention, which will be held Aug. 19-22 in Chicago.
