Dershowitz says no reputable lawyer will go 'anywhere near' Donald Trump.

Alan Dershowitz says no reputable law firm will allow their attorneys to go anywhere near Donald Trump as the former president continues to face mounting legal problems.

“All big firm lawyers have told me that their firms won’t let them do it,” Dershowitz told Insider in an interview. “The firms won’t let them go near any case involving Trump. These are firms that want to continue to have clients, and they know that if they represent Donald Trump, they’ll lose a lot of clients.”

Dershowitz told the outlet that after he represented Trump in his first Senate impeachment trial, he lost job opportunities and speaking arrangements.

Dershowitz recounted one conversation he had with an attorney about how representing Trump affected his career. He said the lawyer told him, “I’m not going near this with a 10-foot pole.”

An attorney familiar with the Trump team thought process said another reason why reputable attorneys stay away from Trump is “he likes to run the show.”

“He’s a big believer in the public relations assault, which I’ve never seen work,” the lawyer said. “I don’t see anybody with any experience it takes to represent a former president in a case like this. There’s a lot at stake here.”

Trump is currently being investigated by the Department of Justice for possibly violating the Espionage Act after FBI executed a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago and found classified documents. He is also accused of obstruction of justice and criminal handling of government records in that same investigation.

The DOJ is also investigating Trump in connection to the deadly Jan. 6 riot at the US Capitol on Jan. 6. Several of his former top aides have been subpoenaed in that investigation.

The Fulton County district attorney’s office is also investigating Trump for possibly breaking Georgia laws when he tried to overturn President Joe Biden’s 2020 victory in the state. Also, the Manhattan district attorney’s office recently secured a plea deal with Allen Weisselberg, the former Trump organization chief financial officer who pleaded guilty to more than a dozen felonies and agreed to implicate the Trump Organization, Insider noted.
