DeSantis trails Trump by 39 points in new Florida poll.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is trailing Donald Trump by 39 points in his home state, according to a new poll released Tuesday.

The University of North Florida’s Public Opinion Research Lab poll showed that 60% of likely Republican primary voters in the state said they’d support Trump compared with just 21% saying they would vote for DeSantis.

Former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley was in a distant third with 6%. Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie received 2% and Vivek Ramaswamy with 1% round out the top five.

When the field is narrowed to just Trump and DeSantis the firmer president still holds a commanding lead of 20 points over the sitting governor.

“Despite historically high approval in the polls, Gov. DeSantis losing steam in his home state doesn’t bode well for his national campaign,” Michael Binder, PORL faculty director and UNF professor of political science said in a statement. “Even if you wipe out the rest of the competition in a head-to-head, Trump leads DeSantis by 20 points.”
