DeSantis: Trump’s spending ‘set the stage for the inflation that we have now’

Florida governor and Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis took a swipe at Donald Trump during Wednesday night’s second GOP presidential debate, blaming the former president for the inflation affecting Americans.

“Donald Trump is missing in action. He should be on this stage tonight. He owes it to you to defend his record, where they added $7.8 trillion to the debt that set the stage for the inflation that we have now,” DeSantis said.

President Joe Biden responded to the clip on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, with a succinct: “Couldn’t agree more.”

Trump skipped the second GOP presidential debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Southern California, much like he did the first debate in Milwaukee.

He’s cited his lead in the polls as a reason for not showing up.

Trump currently has a 42 point lead over his closest rival DeSantis, according to the RealClearPolitics aggregate of polls.
