Dick Cheney calls Trump a 'coward' and a 'threat to our republic'

Former Republican Vice-President Dick Cheney called Donald Trump a “coward” and “threat to our republic” in a new ad for his daughter Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) ahead of her primary election against a Trump-backed candidate.

“In our nation’s 246 year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him,” Cheney said. “He is a coward. A real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters. He lost his election and he lost big. I know it, he knows it and deep down I think most Republicans know it.”

Trump endorsed Cheney’s primary opponent Harriet Hageman last year after the congresswoman voted to impeach him for incitement of insurrection after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Cheney is also one of two Republican members on the committee investigating the events surrounding Jan. 6.

In the ad, Cheney says he is “proud of Liz for standing up for the truth, doing what’s right: honoring her oath to the Constitution when too many in our party are scared to do so.”

The Wyoming primary elections will be held on August 16th. Recent polling shows Cheney losing to Hageman by more than 20 points.
